AFC-P227

The American AFC-P227 Clean Agent Fire Suppression System, UL Listed and FM Approved, utilizes HFC-227ea as its clean agent. Traditional installation of this system is constrained by the size of the protected area and the distance over which the agent must be delivered. This limitation arises from the insufficient quantity of agent when both the HFC-227ea and the nitrogen propellant are stored in a single cylinder pressurized to approximately 25 bar.
To overcome this challenge, the AFC-P227 system incorporates a separate cylinder for nitrogen storage. The two cylinders—one for the extinguishing agent and the other for the nitrogen propellant—are interconnected through appropriate piping and valves. During discharge, high-pressure nitrogen serves to superpressurize the system, propelling the extinguishing agent in a manner similar to a gas drive. This configuration ensures sustained pressure and the required mass flow rate of the agent, enabling the discharge of more than 95% of the agent within 10 seconds over a broader protected area, even when longer agent flow distances are necessary.
